SHALIHA: To reveal horror past today

SHALIHA, the abused adopted sister of the Cik Puan Temenggong Kelantan Manohara Odelia, returned to Indonesia yesterday after more than 10 years to bring their mother Daisy Fajarina to justice.

Indonesian Shaliha, 25, was expected to make a police report against Daisy, 44, in Jakarta today for exploiting her and enduring her to slave-like conditions since the age of 15.

She would highlight to the authorities that her case falls under three elements of slavery:

● The transportation and the recruitment at the age of 14 with force and deceit.
● Daisy made her believe she was going to continue her studies and that she would be treated as a child of the family for the purpose of exploitation.
● The exploitation was regularly accompanied by violence and the months preceding her escape in 2007, rapes and degrading and inhuman treatment.  Her arrival in Jakarta has triggered a media frenzy and Shaliha is expected to hold a "tell-all" media conference this evening.

It is learnt that Shaliha has the support of certain powerful women activists who have promised to "pursue intensively the plight of a fellow Indonesian".

"This is the last thing Daisy would want as she has been trying to stop Shaliha from bringing the past into the open," said Indonesian journalist Heryanto.

He said Shaliha's expected disclosure of "steamy" and "torturous" moments at the hands of Daisy and her sexual offender husband Juergen Reiner Pinot will prove costly to Daisy.

"Daisy's main problem now is the issue with Tengku Fakhry and all her misdeeds will badly affect their case against the prince, if at all mother and daughter have one," Heryanto said.

Manohara, 17, and Daisy will have 21 days from the end of this month to respond to the massive RM105 million defamation suit brought against them by her husband Tengku Fakhry Tengku Temenggong Kelantan, 32.

The Kelantan Syariah Court has set Aug 2 for mention of two other matters involving reconciliation and a RM1 million loan recovery filed by Tengku Fakhry against his wife and mother-in-law.

The women activists are assisting Shaliha in her cause to get Daisy to serve the 18 months jail term imposed in absentia by a French court for abusing her.

Daisy fled to Indonesia in 2007 where she remains a fugitive. The Indonesian government is now considering sending Daisy to France to serve out her sentence.

France wants her back to serve the jail term for "submitting a vulnerable and dependent person to undignified working conditions and assault since 1998".

Daisy was also found guilty of facilitating the sexual abuse of a domestic servant, who was also legally her stepdaughter (Shaliha) by Pinot, 66.

The allegations of rape, including forcible masturbation, were subsequently proven and Pinot served four months in jail.

He is now in Jakarta lending moral support to Daisy and Manohara over a series of legal actions taken by Tengku Fakhry.

Pinot's presence in Jakarta has not gone down well with many quarters there because he is a convicted
sexual offender.

Now, Indonesians turn against Daisy

DAISY Fajarina has other problems as well: An Indonesian non-govermental organisation has also called on the republic’s authorities to investigate her for the exploitation of Manohara.

In a letter addressed to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, chief of police Jenderal (Pol) Bambang Hendarso Danuri as well as the Law and Human Rights Ministry, the Government Against Corruption and Discrimination (GACD), called for the authorities to “intensively investigate” Daisy for knowingly
exploiting Manohara by marrying her off while the girl was still under aged.

Its Law and International Public Committee director F. Romula Sitorus claimed this was in breach of Law No. 23 of Indonesia’s National Child Protection Act 2002.

“Based on the Act, Daisy had failed to act to prevent the marriage between her daughter Manohara and Tengku Temenggong Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Sultan Ismail.”

Under Article 81 of the Act, a parent who knowingly forces his or her child to have sex with the parent or anyone else, can be jailed a maximum of 15 years and fined 300 million Rupiah (RM103,400).

Fugitive on the run

FLED France in 2007 with daughter’s Manohara and Dewi after Shaliha made a police report against her and husband Juergen Reiner Pinot alleging sexual and physical abuse.
● She was jailed 18 months in absentia while Pinot got four months.
● Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda had said that he received a report from the Consulate-General in Marseilles, France, requesting that the Indonesian government assist in getting Daisy to serve the sentence.
● The Consulate-General had made the request involving sexual abuse charges that a French court had passed judgment on, on behalf of an Indonesian (Shaliha) whom Daisy had brought to France.
● The Ministry’s Foreign Affairs Department, through its Indonesian Citizens’ Protection Directorate, would be in consultation with the Indonesian police headquarters to decide on the next course of action.

Shaliha's horror trail

● Sold at a tender age of seven while living in Indonesia.
● Her guardian was Andi Nurul Tinja Mustamin, Daisy’s mother.
● In 1998, Shaliha was entrusted to Daisy.
● Daisy held her in a state of submission and exploitation since the age of 15.
● Her nightmare began when her passport was taken from her as soon as she arrived in France in 2002 so that she could not return to her country.
● Adopted daughter instantly became maid – unpaid.
● Being a maid was in stark contrast to an agreement between Daisy’s mother and Shaliha’s parents.
● Daisy was to integrate her into her family and provide medical care and education.
● Pinot said during his trial that Shaliha came from a poor family and that she had been given to his wife’s richer family, which constitutes a “big favour”.
● He defined the situation as semi-adoption and found normal that as compensation she should work for them since they were giving money to Shaliha’s father.
● So, Shaliha ended up working from 8am to 8pm, took care of Manohara and another sister Dewi, did the cleaning, cooking, ironing and all the household chores.
● Raped by Pinot in 2007 when Daisy was away in Singapore supposedly for chemotherapy.
● The sexual assaults by Pinot continued until they were caught in the act after three months by Daisy.
● Shaliha escaped the abuses and made a police report, resulting in Daisy fleeing France.

good job once again frankie and team. just wonder how you guys work so fast. It will be stupid of indonesia not to take action with the victim out there seeking justice. what is so great of Manohara save and except that she has the looks and is married to a Prince. Justice requires that all person's are treated equally. Maybe Saliha does not have the army of laskar merah putih soldiers on her side, but she is more an Indonesian than Manohara, whose nationality is dubious. Is it indon, Malaysian or American. As for daisy, it is only a matter of time before the law catches up with you. Pity that you will not be around to enjoy the jet, wineries and diamonds that you have. well done malay mail. Hope you guys will be around to seek justice for the less fortunate. Heard that Rocky Bru is with you. If that is the case, then it is no wonder that we are getting fantastic news that other media's do not care to follow.
