THE rat catching campaign initiated by Teratai  assemblyman Jenice  Lee together with the Environment Rescue team and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council is aimed at reducing the rat population in Pandan Perdana.

By offering cash prizes, they hope to get people involved in eradicating rats. It's also to encourage hawkers and food traders to keep their stalls clean and hygienic. The campaign begins tomorrow and will be on for one month.

"The council had previously held similiar  campaigns that received lukewarm response from the public. This time, we hope to make this campaign a success by offering prizes more lucrative than in the past," said Lee.

The campaign is open to residents of Pandan Perdana, Cheras Indah, Maju Jaya and Taman Kencana.

For every rat caught, the council will give RM1. Besides the council, Lee will give an additional bonus to the accumulated number of rats caught by individuals.

A T-shirt will be given for 10 rats. Those with 20 rats will be awarded an extra RM10, while RM30 will be given to the person who catches 50 rats.

For those who can catch 100 rats, an extra RM100 will be given. Residents can choose to work individually or
in groups.

"It is also an opportunity for residents' associations in the areas to raise money for their activities," she said.

Council officials will be at Jalan Pandan Utama from 9am till 10.30am to collect the rats. They will also prepare
50 empty rat cages to exchange it with cages with rats.
