ON the scale of fatness, I have always wondered if the Royal Malaysia Police was a ticking obesity time-bomb. I wondered, looking at rapidly expanding waistlines, if more cops were taking a bite out of more than crime.

SPIRITUAL trajectory on issues of sexual orientation, these days, has all been downwards.

For far too long, the Bible has been used to unfairly condemn people who fail to stick to accepted norms and there has been no significant attempt to address the concerns that matter to both divides.

INDIAN politicians don’t, or refuse, to understand why voters and media pundits often distrust them. And why commentators on the Left and the Right mercilessly attack them incessantly. Even their respective party insiders whinge about the progress of Indians in the national political landscape.

LAST Sunday, “politicians” hogged the church pulpit — priests who preached politics. Priests who you’d think want to make life a misery by imposing their political thoughts on you.

THE Malay Mail editors were a large, radioactive bucket of stress on shaky Saturday over the backward, flawed and crude maltreatment of journalists covering the Bersih 3.0 rally by the police.

The police’s profound lack of reliability, a marked absence of meaningful regulation and oversight were shocking.

WE are increasingly being fed despicable fodder from a growing number of umbrage fests — highly-animated soapbox yelling that are anything but real debates about real issues.

Bahrain

THE Bahrain Grand Prix was always the Formula 1 of arrogance.

The world disapproved of the country’s handling of anti-government protests, yet the sport went there after a two-year absence.

NONE of us can be anything but appalled by the recent outrageous assertion by national hockey coach Tai Beng Hai that it’s difficult for certain players to stop smoking immediately – and that they have been given nicotine patches.

Here’s a coach expounding his overt honesty in public, basically saying smoking among sportsmen was acceptable.

INTERNS traditionally have brutal introductions to their respective fields of profession. Everyone is expected to know what they are getting into. Medical interns are no different.

THE viewing public sobs over corny television commercials that are aimed at touching the heart with love and honesty. Then, thousands blub when their favourite star has been voted off a reality show.

POLICE officers used to be seen as significant members of society who had an innate air of authority. Now, we have wannabe cops wearing police uniforms in the frontline of fighting crime.

Clearly, the Royal Malaysian Police are flawed in its pursuit of simulated policing that will fail to achieve even a simulation of stability in controlling crime.

TODAY’s column wears a bow tie to breakfast. My eccentricity aside, I want to — as wearing a bow tie would suggest — relay an aggressive lack of concern for what other people think about Formula One racing boss Bernie Ecclestone.

IN yet another celebrated political episode that tattoos itself on the psyche, the tigress in the cows and condos saga, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil ends up walking dead as Wanita Umno chief.

THERE is now a proper lynch mob in pursuit of foreign performers, brandishing lunatic rigidity on acts and an exasperating dated brand of vitriol. Their stance carries a scent of hubris and the stench of self-delusion that pointedly is a show of petulance.

OF late, the past has consistently surged into the present and in the middle of it all is former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad whose stand on the grotesque failures that have cost the country a fortune triggers the gnashing of teeth.

PETALING JAYA: One of the iconic images of the Cold War was that of a volatile Nikita Khrushchev, then leader of the Soviet Union, angrily denouncing Lorenzo Sumulong, the leader of the Philippine delegation, as “a jerk, a stooge, and a lackey of imperialism”.

FIREBRAND Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s judgment of people has, at times, seemed questionable. Now, it looks dreadful.

Dr Mahathir has upset that worthy, even, noble purpose of an open debate by saying Malaysians are not mature or educated enough to understand a discourse involving politicians.

I am not sure if some blue sky will remain in place after I declare that scathingly there appears to have been sparse thinking in granting autonomy to four public universities.

The punch-up over the reforms has been meek.

MY revulsion for Valentine’s Day is heightened every year by the self-proclaimed avatars of moral "probity" who turn on the tap of chaos and repeatedly accuse young people of immoral behaviour on this day.

From the thin air of moral high ground, they display pure ignorance and continue to abrasively link Valentine’s Day to Christianity.

TWO journalists, originally from Malaysia, have turbo-charged investigations into an international saga of forbidden love involving the honour killing of a young Indo-Canadian beautician nearly 12 years ago in India.
