DOWNRIGHT distasteful, that joke of a butt-flexing "demonstration" in front of Datuk S. Ambiga’s house was.

It smacks of shallowness. You may even laugh your rears off (pardon the pun) but there is nothing funny in the way those ex-military men decided to showcase their protest.

NEWS of police having nabbed five suspects in connection with Nayati Shamelin Moodliar’s kidnapping greeted many yesterday morning. It made my day.

YOU know what, we got seriously lucky this time, didn’t we? It’s a decapitating personal thought, and not one, I am adamant, that should be dismissed as nothing.

Think about it.

Bersih 3.0 could have been the nation’s worst nightmare: scores were seriously or fatally injured in that madness that we are all still trying to comprehend.

IT’S almost redundant to imagine there is anything more captivating than this Saturday’s Bersih 3.0 rally — with perhaps only the gossipy nature of Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s alleged link with starlet Zahida Rafik threatening to dislodge him.

If you ask around, chances are you will get the sensible nod on allowing the rally to proceed.

NOW, tell me, who doesn’t favour free higher education?

It’s a no-brainer; but the reality is that this is a hard puzzle to unravel.

ON Sunday, I received an sms from blogger-friend Stephen Francis, alerting me to a piece written by his fellow blogger, Bernard Khoo. In it, Khoo, who blogs as Zorro Unmasked at zorro-zorro-unmasked.

IT was one long, annoying wait.

The venue of despise was a telco outlet in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. On that particular Saturday recently, it felt like the whole country had congregated at that very same spot.

Yes, I was extra grumpy that day. It had been a long week. Be patient, I told myself, as I waited for my son’s turn. Somehow, I remember how hollow my own advice sounded to me.

THE country is set abuzz with talk of a June general election.

It has been the country’s favourite past time for some time now, and a fresh trigger was a foreign report quoting sources as pinning down June 3 as D-Day — has upped the tempo of the already fast-spinning speculation wheel .

IN different parts of this fair land, two sets of parents undergo contrasting emotions.

In PJS10, Subang Indah, Bandar Sunway, the air must be thick with overwhelming relief and elation as the family of seven-year-old Wan Hazim Mohd Khadhir, who was found wandering aimlessly along the Kesas Highway on Monday after having gone missing three days earlier, rejoice.

IT is every parent's “headache” contemplating the future of our children. It seems while time had altered the mindset of some, nothing much has changed when it comes to wanting to decide for our kids.

We start with that very precious cornerstone of every Malaysian child’s life that involves the million ringgit question of what they want to do with their life after school.

WHILE he nurses his injuries, Penang-based Kwong Wah Yit Poh reporter Adam Chew is wading through unfamiliar waters of being a newsmaker.

Coming at the back of the “prostitute” remark, the long-haired chap with a rock star appearance has not only garnered public attention but also ignited a debate among media practitioners.

ROUGHLY a year ago, a near-brawl at a primary school came to my attention.

Two groups of pupils were caught by an alert school staff (or it could have been a prefect) as they assembled in the compound of the very same school for a bust-up.

It was disturbing. But what triggered it disgusted me to the core.

TO quote Roberto Mancini, the Manchester City manager: “It is a bad moment to talk about handshakes but I forgive people every time.”

It was clear the feisty Italian was referring to his incredibly stubborn striker, Carlos Tevez, who may just be playing again for the football club with a bottomless pit of oil-wealth, if the Argentinian tendered a formal apology to the gaffer and teammates.

I WILL not mince my words. Big huge shame on those legal firms allegedly discouraging their lawyers from taking part in the now-delayed free legal aid.

The good name of the fraternity is now needlessly placed under a credibility spotlight; it doesn’t augur well, especially since lawyers have taken on a more pronounced role in demanding a better Malaysia in recent times.

AH, Ibrahim Ali (pic). That man — again.

You don’t quite know where to put your finger on the Perkasa chief.

Love him, hate him, or really, really loathe him, the bespectacled veteran politician seems to have an inherent ability to get the attention he seeks.

IT’S nothing short of a national embarassment. No arguments. Amidst the furore created by the Mat Sabu’s
communists-are-heroes, in a quiet, much-forgotten-untilrecently cemetery in Muar, Johor, the spot where the
fallen heroes of the Bukit Kepong are laid to rest, is in shambles.

It’s a historical site; but the dilapidated condition it is in suggests otherwise. It is no exaggeration that it is downright insulting to the memories of those who perished in the incident.

ADMIT it. We all take things for granted.

There are so many things we are blessed with, and yet, these are the very same ones we do not pay attention to, or care for.

Human nature is such that we couldn’t be bothered about the good things we have, until they are gone.

I lost a friend a few days ago. Amir Sharifudin Bahari was my schoolmate, and he passed away in Jakarta on Saturday after experiencing breathing difficulties while breaking fast.

FLIPPING through a particular news report yesterday brought me back to a day at the Kuala Lumpur courthouse many years ago.

I was, at the time, on the court reporting beat and was on my lunch break in the Press room when an elderly pakcik’s head popped through the door.

After giving his salam, he asked if any of us (there were a couple of reporters in the room) were lawyers, to which we replied in the negative.
