KUALA LUMPUR: The remand of a local actor has been extended for seven days.

The 30-year-old actor who is also the son of a multi-award winning veteran actress was brought from the Bukit  Jalil police station lock-up to the Kuala Lumpur Court at Jalan Duta at 10am.

Court registrar, Bakri Ali Omar said the remand will start tomorrow and end on March 25.

The actor was later taken back by police back to the lock-up at Bukit Jalil.

KEPONG: Some people never learn.

A man, who had two previous convictions, was caught again for distributing pornographic and pirated DVDs at his three-storey apartment in Taman Keping Indah this morning.

This time, he had an accomplice in the form of none other than his wife, a China national, who was also nabbed by the Kuala Lumpur commercial crime department during the 7am raid.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained four men in connection with a shooting in Sentul here that killed a goat-herder and wounded three others.

Kuala Lumpur deputy CID chief ACP Khairi Ahrasa said the suspects, aged between 30 and 40, were picked up around the city on Sunday night.

They have been remanded for seven days at the Sentul district police headquarters.

A source told The Malay Mail that the murder could have been triggered by a turf war between triad members.

Ampang Jaya district police chief, ACP Abdul Jalil Hassan said the original remand order for the suspects ended today.

“We will request for an extension of the remand order to facilitate our investigations. We are pursuing two other suspects who disappeared after the arrest of their accomplices.”

BUKIT JALIL: It was a scary find for a 40-year-old security guard during his night patrol when he discovered a body tied at the neck to a flag pole yesterday.

The incident happened at Commonwealth Hill (Bukit Komanwel) Recreational Park near the National Sports Complex at Bukit Jalil.

The security guard who insisted on anonymity said that at around 8pm, he was making his rounds at the park and as he approached the flag poles area, he saw a body with a rope tied at the neck dangling from the lower part of the flag pole.

PETALING JAYA: A foreigner who allegedly raped a private college student in an apartment at Flora Damansara yesterday was caught by residents.

In the 11.30pm incident, residents cornered the suspect, but not before he was able to throw several punches at them.

Ahmad Tuah Abdullah, 27, a friend of the 24-year-old victim, said the incident started about 9pm when they were at an Internet cafe on the ground floor.

KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspects held for the murder of a middle-aged woman at Taman Cahaya Ampang, have  been released by police.

Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Abdul Jalil Hassan said the men, both aged 53, were released after their extended remand order ended on Feb 25.

“Right now, police are checking on the fingerprints taken from the murder scene.”

On Feb 10, a love triangle between the 57-year-old Chen Kuan Chin and the two men took a tragic turn when  she was found dead in her apartment with a stab wound in the neck.

SENTUL: Police have detained a man to assist in their investigations into the murder of 74-year-old Low Kim Chuan in Jalan Sentul Manis here.

Sentul district p olice chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said the 42-year-old suspect was picked up in front of a shop in Jalan Sentul on Friday evening.

“We are holding him for a few days for investigations and we hope it will give us more information into the murder."

On Feb 21, Low was beaten before being robbed of his wallet and watch, by two men.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will deploy narcotics officers to six countries in an effort to combat drug trafficking and smuggling activities.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Department director Datuk Zulhasnan Najib Baharuddin said the officers would be attached to Malaysian embassies in the respective countries.

“Their task is to monitor and process all intelligence on drug related activities before it reaches Malaysia,” Zulhasnan said.

He, however, declined to name the countries but said they were well-known drug producers. It is believed Iran is included.

SENTUL: The 42-year-old suspect who was arrested for murdering his lover at Taman Rimbunan in Kepong on Valentine's Day, Feb 14, has been transferred to the immigration department for not having valid travel documents.

Police sources said the suspect would be detained under the Immigration Act 1953.

It is believed that he was handed over when his remand order ended on Feb 21.

The suspect is expected to be charged when investigations are completed after the end of his detention period at the immigration centre.

PETALING JAYA: A freelance writer lost the precious draft of his unpublished translation of A. Samad Said's poem Puisi panjang al-amin and RM40,000 worth of valuables when three robbers brandishing a parang broke into his house in Kota Damansara last night.

Mohd Ghodzali Abdul Rashid, 61, whose pseudonym is Malik Ghodzali PK, said: “Valuables were taken but my work on A. Samad Said's poem was precious. I have been working  on it for three months and now it's gone. I don't even have the backup files as all were taken during the robbery.”

KUALA LUMPUR: A 74-year-old retiree who was badly injured in a fight with two thugs over the weekend, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Low Kim Chuan from Jinjang Utara, passed away at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The postmortem has revealed that he died from blunt force trauma to the head.

A police source said the incident happened at 6pm last Sunday in front of a liquor shop in Jalan Sentul Manis. Low had just left the shop when he was approached by the two suspects.

The first is Noor Asma Ahmad Nawawi, 21. Her last known address was E-4-11, Pangsapuri Delima, Taman Pasir Permata, Jalan Klang Lama, Selangor.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police obtained an extension of five days in the remand of two men arrested on Feb 12 to assist in investigations into the murder of their allegedly mutual lover, a middle-aged woman, at Taman Cahaya Ampang.

Ampang Jaya district deputy police chief, Superintendent Amiruddin Jamaluddin, said the previous remand order ended on Feb 20.

“There are still certain things we want to know from the suspects," said Amiruddin, adding that other than that, the case has been solved.

PUTRAJAYA: Ministry of Domestic Trade,Co-operatives and Consumerism(MDTCC) have recorded a record number of 42 software piracy-related enforcement raids in 2009 which are estimated at RM12.5 million total worth of seizure.

The enforcement division dir-gen,Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said this total is much more higher than previous year where 37 cases recorded with total of of RM4.8 mill seizure hv been recorded.

"The seizures includes suspected pirated software,computer equipment and peripherals," said Roslan.

GOMBAK: Police could have a lead on the suspects involved in the murder of Sulastri, a housewife who was found murdered on Wednesday, as forensics officers have obtained traces of fingerprints in two sections of her house.

Gombak district police chief ACP Abdul Rahim Abdullah said fingerprint samples were taken from the kitchen’s window pane and a closet.

“We have taken them to the Chemistry Department for analysis to determine if they belong to the suspects.”

KUALA LUMPUR: Three foreigners thought their drug stash were so well hidden that they could stroll through the the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) checkpoint.

Their confidence was further boosted when the Federal police and KLIA anti-narcotics team could not find any incriminating evidence in the Iranian men's luggage upon their arrival from Dubai on Jan 25.

That was until the police, who were equally confident of the strength of a public tip-off, decided to send the visitors to hospital for X-ray.

PETALING JAYA: A South American man was arrested for vehicle burglary at a petrol station in Jalan SS2/60, near a police station there.

The incident began about noon last Wednesday when the victim, a 30-year-old lorry driver, was waiting near a bank in Jalan SS2/67, for his co-driver to return from collecting the company's payroll from the bank.

The suspect punctured the rear right tyre of the driver's one-tonne lorry and tried to steal items from the lorry twice, and his second attempt proved to be his undoing.

KUALA LUMPUR: The staff of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital were given a shock when a taxi pulled up at the front entrance of the maternity building, complete with a police outrider with sirens blaring, this morning.

It turned out that a Myanmar woman had given birth in the taxi while on her way to hospital.

The woman, known only as Hlei Par, 29, was immediately bundled onto a stretcher and rushed into the delivery room. She was accompanied by her husband, identified only as Tuh Lin, 29, also a Myanmar national.

SUBANG JAYA: A suspected car thief who was arrested with a gunshot wound at a private hospital in Seremban on Jan 7 has been released on police bail.

Subang Jaya district police chief, ACP Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar, said the suspect was currently seeking treatment at a hospital in the district under police guard.

PETALING JAYA: A caretaker of a shop was detained and 20 sets of computers worth about RM60,000 used for illegal gaming activities seized during a raid at Jalan 11/4, Petaling Jaya yesterday.

The man, in mid-20s, was arrested in the 11pm operation, called 'Ops Dadu' (Operation Dice), by officers from Sea Park police station. There were also customers in the shop.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said police had been receiving numerous complaints from the public about loud noise coming from the premises.

AMPANG: Police have taken a statement from a 12-year-old girl who was abducted near a convenience shop at Taman Dagang, Ampang on Jan 14.

Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Abdul Jalil Hassan said the girl's statement was recorded on Saturday.

“We recorded her statement although she was still traumatised by the incident,” said Jalil.

He said police have studied CCTV footage at several toll booths in Gombak in an effort to trace the white van that was allegedly driven by her abductor.
