SHAH ALAM: The Syariah High Court here this morning allowed actor-host AC Mizal to withdraw his application for custody of his two children.

While today was supposed to be the start of the custody trial, the actor's Syarie counsel Siti Aishah Din informed judge Abu Zaky Mohammad that  due to his hectic schedule, her client has filed an application to withdraw his claim for full custody of his two children, Muhammad Shafiq Imam, 12, and Muhammad Shabil Iman,9, from ex-wife Shafnie Zainuddin.

KUALA LUMPUR: The year is coming to an end and there is still no indication whether Indonesia will lift the freeze it imposed on its women leaving for Malaysia to work as domestic helpers.

Whether the Malaysian government meets its year-end deadline to resolve the issue is dependent on what the Indonesian government decides, the Human Resources Ministry says.

Its minister, Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, said the two countries were still discussing the matter and that "nothing has been finalised yet".

SHAH ALAM: Two men convicted for stealing rubber gloves more than three years ago had their appeal against their conviction turned down at the Shah Alam High Court this morning.

G. Krishnamorthy, 38, of Sungai Pelek, Sepang, and M. Anthony Kumar, 31, of Negeri Sembilan, were sentenced at the Klang Sessions Court by judge Noradibah Ahmad on July 26, 2006, to four years' jail for stealing 148 cartons of rubber gloves worth RM10,500.

Alam Setiawan from Tanjung Asahan Balai was arrested on Apr 25 after he was found in possession of 1,732g of cannabis at a fertiliser warehouse in Port Klang.

SHAH ALAM: A contractor was sentenced to death for drug trafficking by the High Court here today.

Danial Ooi Abdullah, 47, was also given two years’ jail and two strokes of the rotan for drug possession.

He had been charged for committing the two offences on at 11.30pm on April 4 at Restaurant Hong Wu Food on Jalan Pekan Batu, Klang.

Its Minister, Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, said at present, the ministry was doing so through a "multi-ministerial" joint committee.

SHAH ALAM: An Indian national was jailed for five years by the Shah Alam High Court this morning for attempting to smuggle drugs into the country.

The accused, Abdul Raheem Abdul Razack, 36, from Chennai, was detained by Immigration officers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport after a scan on his luggage, a green file holder and a slingbag, revealed suspicious-looking packets inside.

Sixteen packets of crystal ketamine, weighing 7,836.9 grammes, were found.

WONG is disappointed with the poor job done by Bina Roofing and Plumbing Services, which he hired from the contractor’s call card dropped into his mailbox.

He called the firm on Oct 18 to repair a leak on his apartment ceiling. “The contractor assessed the leakage and estimated the repairs at RM1,000. He asked for RM300 as initial payment to buy treatment chemicals.

“After the repair was done, I paid Bina Roofing and Plumbing the balance of RM700. The contractor assured me that there will be no more leakage.

AZRIL of Kota Damansara never thought that a simple cheque transaction can give him so much distress.

He says a cheque was banked into his CIMB account by a third party. But due to a technical error on the cheque, it was not cleared.

“I received a phone call from CIMB, asking me if I wanted the faulty cheque to be couriered to me or if I would pick it up myself. I chose the latter.”

Subsequently, AZRIL found from his bank statement that he had been charged RM10 for the returned cheque.

JASIE travels to the Selayang Hospital often and she finds the road leading to the hospital from Jalan Ipoh has several potholes.

“I understand that many heavy vehicles ply that road, Lebuhraya Selayang- Kepong, thus wearing out the surface quickly. But, the road just can’t be left like that.”

JASIE adds that on the road, near Jalan Melati 20, the street lights have not been working for some time, Also, the trees have not been trimmed, making the area really dark at night.

She hopes the council will look into the matter as it concerns the safety of motorists.

BOB of Shah Alam is unhappy over being charged a  penalty by a bank six years after settling the loan.

He took a housing loan from RHB Bank in 1993 and in 2001, applied for a renovation loan. Full settlement of the second loan was done in 2003.

At the end of last year, he completed paying off the housing loan and wanted to collect the title grant. “When I checked with the bank headquarters whether I had any outstanding payment, I was informed there was none.”
