SUBANG JAYA: Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan  (YBK) Selangor should not have chased away officers from the Selangor Secretariat Office's (SUK) internal audit section when they visited YBK’s office last Monday morning.

“YBK should have invited the auditors in for tea instead!” he quipped. Khalid said if YBK was interested in helping out the poor, they should have just given their full cooperation to the auditors.

SUBANG JAYA: Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim rubbished claims by the Works Ministry that the state government had disbursed only a small portion of funds allocated by the Federal government towards various road and drainage works in the State.

Labeling Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor's statement as "incorrect", Khalid said the money is channeled to local governments to handle road maintenance, traffic diversion and drain culvert repairs.

KUALA LUMPUR: The "one-student, one-sport" vision will be implemented next year, said Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a two-hour meeting with ministry officials and the main committees of sports development in schools at the  Parliament House this morning, it was agreed that the glory of sports in schools should be brought back.

With the implementation of the one-student-one-sport vision, a student must be involved in at least one sport in school.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry has set March 27 as the new date to brief 480 Kampung Kerinchi PKNS flat owners on the proposed redevelopment of the area.

The briefing, which was initially scheduled for tomorrow night, was postponed due to the flats’ residents association requesting more time to review the proposed redevelopment.

The ministry agreed to give residents the opportunity to analyse and vote which of four developers’ proposals they favoured.

PUTRAJAYA: The government is studying the service scheme for lecturers of public institutions of higher learning and teaching institutions that will lead to higher pay for the educators.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak told reporters this morning at the National Civil Service Convention at  the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) that a newly revised scheme will allow for lecturers in public institutes of higher learning to reach the highest salary grade without having to hold administrative posts.

PETALING JAYA: The government’s proposal to make it compulsory for property developers to provide broadband Internet facilities at new residential and commercial areas has received the thumbs-up from consumer groups — provided the government improves the speed and quality of the Internet services, too.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced last Thursday that the government may want to amend the existing Uniform Building By-Laws 1984 to make broadband infrastructure a compulsory service.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry will call all 480 Kampung Kerinchi PKNS flat owners for a meeting at 8pm on March 12, at the SMK Sri Pantai school hall, Jalan Kerinchi Kiri, Lembah Pantai, to brief them on the proposed redevelopment of the area.

A balloting process will also be held at the meeting for residents to pick which redevelopment plan — there are four plans — they are in favour of.

Ministry officials will first reveal the names of the four developers interested in redeveloping the area.

KLANG: Neighbours noticed a houseful of foreign workers had suddenly gone "silent" the past few days. Last night, they were shocked to learn that a woman, in her 30s, was found dead inside the house along Jalan Dato Yusuf Shabudin 16A, Taman Sentosa.

Her body was found at 9.45pm on the floor, with blood from her nose and mouth. Initial investigations showed the woman had been dead for at least 24 hours but the cause of death had yet to be ascertained.
