CARS are no longer made like they are used to — simple, fun, and economical. Many new cars have enough technology to light up a geek expo, and as you move up the food chain, the computing powers built into some cars exceed even the machines that once sent men to the moon. In this light, a simple and unpretentious car such as the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage comes across as a very refreshing preposition.
ford

THE king of pick-up trucks has returned. Ford launched its all new Ranger in Malaysia earlier this year, and even before its arrival, there was plenty of hype being drummed up by the company’s enthusiastic marketing team as they gear up to take on established opposition in a market segment which they themselves pioneered and subsequently lost out to the Japanese.

THE car-shopping budget of a typical urban wage earner in Malaysia is usually capped at RM100,000, and whilst there are a few options available, choices are restricted to the national makes and entry-level Japanese sedans.

THE new 6th generation 3 Series, codenamed F30, was launched in Malaysia about 3 months ago, and it was offered with a choice of 3 turbocharged direct injection engines. Our review here focuses on the 328i, priced at RM289,900 on-the-road before insurance, making it the range’s middle child sitting in between the 2.0-litre diesel 320d and the 3.0-litre petrol 335i.
a6
THE Audi A6 is a pretty well equipped car in comparison with its rivals. It has a 3.0-litre supercharged engine with 300hp and 440Nm on tap paired to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and allwheel drive. Add that up with a tastefully styled exterior and the best-built cabin in the business, you get a compelling alternative to the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5 Series.
mazda
AMIDST all the hoo-haa surrounding the environmental benefits of electric and hybrid vehicles, Mazda is stepping forward to suggest that there is plenty of life left in the good old internal combustion engine. The company argues that by 2020, 90% of motor vehicles around the world will still be burning fossil fuel, and as a result, Mazda has opted to refine what’s currently being used.
preve
NOT all of the above features are standard, of course. The Prevé is offered with a choice of two trim levels, and choosing one over the other also dictates your powertrain package.

AMONGST its competitors in the pick-up market, the Mitsubishi Triton has always been noted for its exceptional refinement.

BMW Group Malaysia started the New Year with a revamp of its 5 Series range with new four-cylinder engines introduced to the line-up replacing the company’s hallmark straight six-pots.

The diesel-powered 520d has received some minor updates, but the biggest talking point is undoubtedly the 520i’s return to the line-up since its discontinuation with the E60. It replaces the 523i, and is pleasingly priced a full RM25k cheaper.
C26c-feb9
Compared to rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi, BMW was rather late to join in the downsized forced induction party.

Insufferably proud of its silky smooth six-pot engines, Munich found itself backed to a corner as Europe tightened its leash on the tail pipes.
C27a-feb9
While the 520i is likely to make up the bulk of 5 Series sales this year, the 528i, kitted in M Sport trim as standard, will serve the needs of buyers with more demanding tastes.

Here, the same 2.0-litre engine from the 520i replaces the previous 3.0-litre inline-six mill, but tuned to higher outputs of 245hp and 350Nm — easily class-leading figures amongst the competition.
