THE Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) sees itself at a crossroads this coming general elections. All but wiped out, the third largest party in the ruling coalition risks being obliterated this time as the party embarks on a soul-searching exercise to regain its place in the Barisan Nasional (BN).

PUTRAJAYA: A Kuala Lumpur police force (KL Met), separate from the Royal Malaysia Police and answerable to the mayor, is being thought of as part of efforts to turn the federal capital into a world-class city.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, who is keen on the idea, said such a force will "grant greater autonomy" to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) as well as the ministry.

PETALING JAYA: The stalled West Coast Expressway, awarded to IJM Corporation Bhd, was part of a bailout deal for 13,500 abandoned homes, The Malay Mail understands.

IJM had been approached by Tan Sri Chan Ah Chye, the chairman of Talam Corporation in the early 2000s, to rescue several abandoned housing projects in Selangor.

Chan, whose Kumpulan Europlus Bhd subsidiary, WCE Sdn Bhd, won the highway concession in 2002, had approached IJM boss Tan Sri Krishnan Tan to help revive the housing projects — something then synonymous with Talam.

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor State Assembly speaker is furious at the state secretary’s move to draft the instrument to dissolve the assembly without getting the menteri besar’s consent.

THE saga of the embattled National Feedlot Centre (NFC) project and the company tasked to implement it, the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) seems like a bottomless pit of scandals as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) keeps producing one allegation after another.

PETALING JAYA: In a case of putting the cart before the horse, the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) project was suspended two years after it was awarded to NFCorp Sdn Bhd to facilitate a feasibility study.

It is understood that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was miffed a feasibility study was not conducted earlier although the project had been awarded to NFCorp and its associate company, National Meat and Livestock Corporation Sdn Bhd.
