Accomplice arrested in turf war arson attack
PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested an accomplice following the arson attack that damaged 26 motorcycles and a taxi at the Desa Mentari flats car park on Saturday.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said the unemployed man in his early 20s was picked up following investigations into the case.
The suspect who was picked up nearby the flats at 6pm on Monday, is also believed to be a gang member.
“We know the motive could be revenge over a personal dispute among two gang members who wanted control over an area in Desa Mentari," Arjunaidi said.
He added that police believed that one of the suspects torched the parking lot merely for reasons that his rival regularly spends time in that area.
Both groups, were residents of the flats and police have indentified others to assist into investigations.
Last Sunday, police arrested the prime suspect a 20-year-old man following the incident.
Both the suspects are under remand and being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code, for causing mischief by fire.
