KUALA LUMPUR: Google yesterday launched its Chrome web store in Malaysia — seeking to be an open marketplace that gives users an easy place to browse, discover and purchase the best apps on the web, while giving developers a dedicated place to showcase their web applications.

Google Malaysia country manager Sajith Sivanandan said: “We’re especially excited that the new Chrome web store includes several apps designed especially for Malaysians, created by local developers.”

For travel booking and information, he said there’s the AirAsia app. And for personal finance needs, the Maybank app is also available.

“Of course, there’s Angry Birds and Battle Stations too, as well the popular file storage app Box, photo editing tools like Pixlr, and the Google Docs suite.

“You can also find in the Chrome web store lots of extensions and themes to help you customise your web browsing experience.

Unlike apps, extensions like PrayOnTime — which displays the Islamic daily prayer times for your location — are always available no matter what website you’re on.”
