Federal government hands over RM35.26m to MAIS

SHAH ALAM: The federal government today handed over RM35,255,800 million to the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) for payment of allowances for religious activities in the state this year.

The allocation was handed by Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar, representing the federal government, to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, at Istana Bukit Kayangan here.

A total RM27,955,200 was allocated to pay the allowances of 240 Kafa head teachers and 6,060 Kafa teachers.

"The Federal Government pays RM800 a month for each teacher. The state government tops this up with RM600 for Kafa head teachers and RM500 for Kafa teachers," he said.

Noh said RM6 million was allocated to pay the allowances of all 669 mosque imams in Selangor with each receiving RM750 a month.

He said RM1,279,600 was allocated for 142 takmir teachers in the state with each getting RM800 a month.
