Felda listing will benefit all

Friday, April 06, 2012 - 14:17

IN reference to the recent criticism surrounding the planned Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGVH) public listing, I struggle to understand the resistance to what seems to me like a necessary move.

If Felda is to ever realise its full potential, it will need to be run like a proper global agribusiness: listed and well managed.

The government recently announced its plans to speed up downstream activities of the palm oil industry to assist small holders and plantation companies to maintain the competitiveness of their products.

Under the Palm Oil NKEA, the focus is to improve the upstream and downstream sectors towards achieving higher productivity and new sources of income.

The public offering of FGVH is a move that is will not only benefit the company’s stakeholders but also Malaysia's capital markets. I hope people will look beyond politicising this issue and take head of the actual benefits that this move will bring to the nation.
