MCA 'confident' Shahrizat will make right decision

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is "confident" that Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil is wise enough to make decisions in the best interests of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today.

"She is a senior party leader. We have confidence in her making a decision in the best interests of BN and Umno," he told reporters after presenting cheques to 21 individuals for medical treatment at Wisma MCA.

Chua was responding to questions on whether Shahrizat should resign over the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) Sdn Bhd scandal.

Asked if Shahrizat, who is Wanita Umno chief, is a liability to Umno and the BN coalition, Chua said: "No one regards a politician as an asset. The Opposition always regard a politician as a liability. It is up to the public's perception.

After pointing out the negative perception by the public towards Shahrizat and her family, Chua said the public should not judge the matter as the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) were still investigating the matter.

"We should let the law run its course. No one is guilty until proven so," he said.
