Nigerian students and local women busted for drug trafficking
SHAH ALAM: Nigerian students and three local women were nabbed for drug trafficking activities on Sunday.
The students, aged between 25 and 33, were found to be distributing drugs; mainly syabu and ganja, to nightclubs around Puchong and Kuala Lumpur for the past six months and believed to have raked in profits of more than RM500,000.
Selangor Narcotics Department chief ACP Nordin Kadir said the Nigerian acted as distributors while the women, were believed to be their girlfriends and pushers.
He said based on a trip-off, a police team raided an apartment unit in Puchong at 7.30am on Sunday where they arrested five Nigerian men and three local women.
"The team found 190 grams of ganja and 998 grams of syabu inside one of the rooms and a car key of a rented Proton Persona rented by one of the Nigerian students," said Nordin.
Upon checking the car, police found 753 grams of ganja under the front passenger seat.
Nordin said a follow-up operation led police to a condominium unit, also in Puchong at 6pm the same day.
"We detained two Nigerian students and seized 6kg of ganja in the unit," he said.
The suspects, said Nordin later led police to a location in Selayang where police arrested two more Nigerian students in a Perodua Viva.
"The team seized five slabs of ganja weighing 4.55kg from them," he said.
Nordin said initial investigations revealed the Nigerians students entered the country about a year ago using student visas.
The total seizure was worth RM289,100.
The suspects were remanded until Feb 28 under Section 39B of Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death penalty.
