RM200,000 to upgrade village roads
PENGKALAN HULU(PERAK): Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir announced a RM200,000 allocation to upgrade roads in the jungle leading to Kampung Pong in Pengkalan Hulu.
The visit was Zambry’s first since becoming chief minister.
The village, deep in a jungle, is home to a 200-year old Siamese settlement.
Upon Zambry’s arrival, the villagers, in keeping with tradition, raised their hands together in greeting Selamat Datang instead of Sawadeekap to show the mixed culture of the villagers.
Village head Ai Chuan, 57, said he belonged the ninth generation living in the village, 10km from the main road.
“The shabby path is the only access in and out of our village. Upgrading the roads will make it easier and safer for travel,” Ai Chuan said.
