Managing Director Toru Kobayasi told a press conference after the launch ceremony here that Suzuki commanded about three to four per cent of the local scooter market presently.
He said the annual sales of motorcycles in Malaysia were about 500,000 units and scooter represented 12 per cent of the total motorcycle market in this country.
Kobayasi said he was optimistic that the NEX, with an engine capacity of 113 cc with 6.9 kilowatt power output, fuel efficiency at 52 km per litre and at a price tag of RM4,218 -- would have great appeal to a wide range of market segments including youngsters.
The new scooter comes in three colours; Pearl Frash Green, Pearl Sakura Pink and Brilliant White.
Kobayashi said Suzuki also planned to bring in scooter with bigger engine capacity in the future.
He also said hopefully by year-end the company would bring in superbikes to compete with other brands which had already came to Malaysia to meet the increasing demand.
