MANCHESTER: Jan Vertonghen (pic) says he is not letting speculation about his future distract him from winning the Dutch title with Ajax.
The Belgian defender has just one year left on his contract and is likely to attract summer bids from Tottenham and Arsenal, while Newcastle boss Alan Pardew watched him play in Holland last weekend.
The 24-year-old admits he is likely to leave Ajax at the end of the season, but insists he is only focused on helping the club achieve success for the moment.
“Everybody knows that I’m open to a transfer, but you shouldn’t want to leave at all costs,” he told Algemeen Dagblad.
“I have a few things lined up at the moment, but it’s difficult to say anything about that at the moment. I’ll see what happens, if something becomes concrete.
“I’m focusing on putting in good performances and winning the league title for now,” he concluded.
